Malaria

Malaria is a disease transmitted to humans by the bite of infected mosquitoes. A parasite is responsible for this disease and only uses the mosquito as a vector.  Those who are infected by malaria feel very sick, with high fever and chills.

Malaria is common in tropical and subtropical areas.  People from temperate climates who travel to tropical countries can still be at risk.  Protective clothing and insect repellents are recommended if travel is necessary to these areas.
