Hepatitis B is a blood virus that is spread by direct contact with the blood or body fluids of an infected person.
Hepatitis B occurs widely all over the world with the highest reported cases inparts of East Asia, Sub Saharan Africa, Amazon, Southern parts of Eastern and Central Europe, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. Low rates of infection have been reported in Western Europe and North America.
Hepatitis B Risk to Travellers
The risk of Hepatitis B infection is low in travelers except in certain behaviours or activities that puts travelers at higher risk. This high risk is further increased when such activities or behaviours occur in areas where Hepatitis B is more common.

▪ Exposure to contaminated needles through injecting drugs
▪ Exposure to contaminated blood or other devises including needles as a result of accessing medical or dental care or emergencies while traveling

Hepatitis B Vaccination
Hepatitis B vaccination is available on its own and also in combination with Hepatitis A. Hepatitis A vaccination is recommended for all travelers who are considered to be at risk.
